Hima Das, who hails from Assam, made headlines overnight after winning the gold medal at the World U-20 Championships 2018, Finland. Hima Das won the gold medal by taking a time of 51.46 seconds in the 400 meter race event. She was followed by Andrea Miklos of Romania in second with 52.07 seconds and Taylor Manson of USA with 52.28 seconds. Hima Das continued the same performance in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta. In 2019 she won the 5 gold medals in 19 days and made the name of the entire country bright in the world.

- Hima Das had an inclination towards sports since childhood and she used to play many types of sports since childhood.
- It is said that Hima used to play football with boys during her school days and it was during this time that her stamina increased significantly. Because of which she did not get tired quickly while running.
- Hima was first advised to become a racer by the teacher of Physical Education of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

Recently, she has become the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championship track competition. Before her, no Indian woman has been able to win the 400 meter race of the IAF World Under-20 Championship. She completed this 400 meter race in just 51.46 seconds and finished first.
