Former sarpanch
Sunil Jaglan: Of Bibipur village Sunil Jaglan is working on women’s empowerment and school education. As sarpanch from 2010 to 2016, Sunil convened a women’s gram sabha for the first time in the year 2012, raising the issue of neglect of women in the society.
In which women took an oath not to commit female feticide and a decision was taken to register an FIR against those who committed female feticide. Started “Beti Bachao Abhiyan” on 18 June 2012.
For this campaign
The government gave a prize of Rs 10 lakh to the gram panchayat. Out of which five lakh rupees were built in the village library. It was the first library of any gram panchayat.
In the year 2012 itself, the Gram Panchayat announced that the daughter, who wants to study after class 12, will be given books by the Gram Panchayat.
Less well-educated daughters-in-law were also encouraged to continue studying in their in-laws’ house after marriage.
It was decided that half of the amount will be spent by asking women for whatever development works will come in the village.
Many documentaries
Have been made on Bibipur village. Last year’s Sunrise documentary received the Best Documentary Award. Now this documentary is being shown at the New York Film Festival.
The then sarpanch of Bibipur, Sunil Jaglan, who achieved the distinction of the country’s first high-tech panchayat, started a selfie with doctor campaign in 2015.
The campaign
Was well received by the people and celebrities also took a selfie with their daughters and uploaded it on the portal created by Sunil Jaglan.
On 28 June 2015, PM Modi had praised the Selfie with Daughter campaign at the Mann Ki Baat program. On 20 September, he mentioned it again. Modi also praised the campaign by going to the US on 27 September and to London on 23 November.
Raised voice against curtain practice
Sunil Bibipur started work on it in 2016 by creating the Bibipur Model of Women Powerment and Village Development. Under this, the program was adopted by adopting Taloda village in Jind district. In which 28 women abandoned the veil.
At the same time, a provision was made to register a letter for abusing women. In December 2016, the then President Pranab Mukherjee implemented the Bibipur model in 100 villages for his adoption and honored Sunil Jaglan with an award of Rs 50 lakh.
Sunil Jaglan is currently working as an advisor at the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation on rural development, women empowerment and school education.
