"I don't have an MBA or a business degree, and I wasn't very good at accounting," Robert explained. When I first wanted to start a business, everyone told me, 'you can't do it.' Fundamentally, I attribute my business success to the fact that I genuinely enjoy what I do."

Herjavec used his passion to lead two multimillion-dollar technology companies. In just nine years, the Herjavec Group has grown from three employees and $400,000 in sales to nearly 200 employees and $125 million in sales.

"When people ask what I do, I tell them I work in a very complicated technology business that is incredibly boring to anyone who isn't in it, but I love it," Herjavec explained.

Robert Herjavec immigrated to Canada from present-day Croatia when he was eight years old. Growing up in former Yugoslavia was difficult for Herjavec's family, particularly his father.

The family patriarch was frequently imprisoned for speaking out against communism. This was one of the factors that prompted the family to relocate to Canada in search of new opportunities.
